Will Obama Change U.S. Pakistan Policy?

There were no street parties, no fireworks nor obvious celebrations on the streets of Pakistan to herald in Barak Obama as the new American president - but on every TV news channel, all night long, Barak Obama was the news. Obama is expected to bring about changes in the foreign policy of his predecessor, President George W Bush. Putting Pakistan on notice, the Obama administration, in an agenda document, has cautioned Islamabad that it would be held accountable for the security in the border regions of Afghanistan and its performance in the war on terror would be linked to the U.S. non-military financial aid. Pakistan has said that it would review its options if the Obama administration did not adopt a positive policy towards the country.

Govt rules out any bailout package for Satyam

Since the speculation was rife that the Central government is considering a package of up to Rs 2,000 crore to bail out the crisis-ridden Satyam Computer, the government has ruled out any bailout package for the company. Though it has assured to do everything required to save jobs under the framework of its responsibilities. This is a decision that the new board of Satyam would take. Government is not going to directly or indirectly subsidize wrong-doing and fraud in Satyam, it said. Satyam's senior management executive Ram Mynampati has informed the government that the troubled IT firm will need Rs 150 crore to meet insurance liabilities of its US employees.

IT industry established itself with little help from successive Indian governments, so where is the need for Indian government to intervene now?

Should the govt take over Satyam to restore confidence abroad and bring it under the public sector?

Will the Satyam fiasco affect the credibility of other Indian IT comapanies

The admission to Rs 7,000 crore fraud by B Ramalinga Raju, chairman, Satyam Computer Services, will have a massive impact on the information technology company's brand image and goodwill of the sunrise IT sector in the country. The revelation comes after much speculation about the company's solvency, and the disappointment

Great expectations: Obama will have to deliver

20 January 2009 is the day when Barack Hussein Obama will become the 44th president of the United States. Over and over, Obama told American voters if they stuck with him "we will change this country and change the world." They did, and now their expectations for him to deliver are firmly planted on his shoulders.

Atop Obama's challenge list is the global and domestic turmoil that he inherits. The worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Then there's the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, nuclear standoffs with North Korea and Iran. Obama clearly sees Pakistan and Afghanistan as the frontline of the terror war. The staging of the 26/11 assault on Mumbai, along with attacks on NATO supply lines passing through Peshawar, could be a riposte to Obama's plans. And as the fighting in Gaza this week shows, there will be other conflicts.

What would be the new world order under Obama's rule over the US?

Would Obama be able to deliver great expectations?

J & K results, a message to separatists

More important than the election results to the contentious state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) that are declared (which produced a hung assembly with the National Conference as the single largest party) has been the voter turnout. If 62 percent of Kashmiris chose to defy the boycott call given by secession breathing elements, then it clearly indicates that the

people of the state, unlike many Muslim societies that reel under authoritarian rule, are willing to pay their allegiance to the Indian constitution.

The successful completion of free and fair elections with record participation from the citizenry gives India a powerful weapon to counter Pakistan’s propaganda on Kashmir. Do you agree?

Do you think high voter turnout in the seven-phased Jammu and Kashmir election and the subsequent results is a reply to separatists that 'their time is over'?
