Maharashtra cabinet has taken a bold step to legalise the live-in relationships. It has approved a proposal suggesting a woman involved in such a relationship for a 'reasonable period' should get status of a wife. The proposal is based on recommendations of the Justice Mallimath Committee which said if a man and a woman
are living together as husband and wife for a reasonably long period, the man shall be deemed to have married the woman according to customary rights of either party. The committee had also recommanded that the definition of the word 'wife' under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc), be amended to include a woman, living with the man like his wife for a reasonably long period.
Is it not against of marriage act of 1955?
Many controversies may take place. Like, people of other states will go to Maharashtra to take advantage of this act.

I am not against the Married life geting breakup due to this Act, but it will save many more Women who have to live their whole life under the constant fear of geting Harresed by the legitimate wife but now onwards it will be a tool in those women who uptll now had to live their life under fear to fight for their Rights & as well as their childern's Rights who uptill now were deprived of their Shares in the event of the death of their Father or Mother.
We all are living in the Modern Society & not in the Medivial times.
During the Mediviel times the so called women used to be harrresed along with their Childern.
Now i do hope that the so called Learned men & women will allow the other women & their childern with their Husbands & Fathers.
I am of the opinon that the law usedhave been brought long back so that by now many lifes of women would had been saved.
India is on its way to become the super power & we all Indians have to changed as per the Time.
