Schools and colleges se chutti, exams se chutti, and it’s time for fun, frolic, leisure and travel. Of course, though the travel plans must have been finalised long ago, there may still be some planning to do about your attire on vacation or your resort wear.

Jai of the Jai-Parvesh designer duo of Delhi, who for the first time showcased at the recently held Lakme Fashion Week, says, “A resort or vacation wear especially during the hot months of summer must be light weight dresses with light, airy and soft fabric. The style should be loose so that breeze can easily touch the skin.’’ The duo who specialise in resort wear – bikini, thong bikini for men, and flowy resort dresses – advise holiday makers to get their garments in silk, cotton or georgette fabrics with embellishments and hand-painted with pigment colours. “The silk ones come in handy when you want to go for some evening party in the resort.’’

A resort wear is all about looking unique, smart, chic and comfortable. And every individual’s looks and comfort levels are different. So while packing your resort wear, keep this in mind. But make sure you have an assortment of a classy dress, a skirt or slacks or a simple smart looking dress. Designer Kapil of Kapil and Monika fame, a designer couple, says, “Fluid fabrics softly tailored for a languid summer feel are great. The overall effect should be clean, feminine, but not girly. Tonal placement embellishments should also be easy on the eye.
A hint of shine adds a

sparkle to every outfit, without being jarring –whether in daylight or in the evening.’’

Mumbai-based designer Babita Malkani prefers block printing, spray and hand-printing, dyeing techniques, surface ornamentation and light embellishments on simple light cotton fabric. She also loves georgette and light silk for resort wear. “Comfort and style should be the mantra of a resort garment,” feels the designer. And if you are a teenager, you should go for hot pants, dhoti dunga rees, waterfront waistcoats, T-backs in linen, stretch linen either in plain colours or with hand block or digital prints, which would make you look fun and peppy.

As Sabah Khan, a Mumbai-based young designer, says, “Earthy colours of uniforms or even colours of the bright posters of the side walls of the auto rickshaw will look brilliant as a resort wear!’’ Of course one can never go wrong with the classic Navy colours of blue and white. Or even the light lemony yellow and green for any resort wear especially if you plan to visit the seashore. Pria Kataaria Puri of Mumbai, who loves embroidery and embellishments on her creations, says, “The travelling exotic diva who wants to look glamorous instantly without any fuss must have easy, fun, luxurious and affordable classic ensembles that flatter the feminine curves. After all today's busy and multi - tasking women don’t have the time nor do they want cumbersome wardrobe! They want quick and easy glam dressing that makes one look and feel like a million bucks! So a resort wear can be comfortable and glamorous too.”

With so many designers advising you, I am sure you will have the best attired vacation ever.
Bon voyage!
