Up the heat
New trends in summer/resort wear took centrestage at LFW. Send the mercury
soaring this summer with these hep designs

Glam quotient is always high at any fashion week. But what catapulted this LFW 2010 were the various new trends that were thrown up by designers who enjoyed creating summer/resort
wear. As designer Vikram Phadnis says, “Though our forte has been lot of embellishments, for this season, our collection defined simplicity and elegance.” His words echo the sentiments of several other designers too. The general summer wear stressed on soft and comfortable wear with loose, flowy cuts. This brought in multi-level innovations in pants, tunics, silhouettes and gowns, mostly using chiffons, embroidered net and crochet fabric. The bonhomie atmosphere complimented the sassy models walking the ramp with lots of oomph factor. |

Sheers
All designers, including
the otherwise conservative
designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, had sheer apparel in their collections. Sheer jackets or a top even on a ghagra or sari is likely to make the apparel look contemporary.
Instead of going
for a plain sheer dress,
opt for one which is
printed, embroidered,
has patchwork or lots of embellishment. Best way to appear is modestly dressed with a jacket covering micro pants or bikini! |

Pants
Harem and patiala pants got a new face. The harem pants worn as patiala pants with short bustiers, or fitted tops are right for beaches, resorts or even at
parties, depending on the embellishments. As such pants have a lot of flouncy body. So care
needs to be taken to wear a body
hugging or tight fitting top or
T-shirt. Zooming on a bike in these
pants is likely to bring in lot
of stares. |

Jackets
Jackets ruled the ramp. They came in all
sizes – short, waist-length, mid-length,
calf-length and some even touching the
ankles. They were paired with skirts,
gowns, trousers, shorts, micro-shorts
and even saris. Plain jackets, embroidered,
block printed, with appliqué work and
with lots of add-ons like buttons, flowers,
etc. were displayed. They can be used
as both beachwear and party wear. |

Shorts
How can a summer/ resort wear succeed without a lot of leg show? LFW- 2010 had plenty of it. Short pants, micro-short pants on long legged models scorched the ramp. All colours – white,
denim blue, black, burnt orange, canary yellow, red,
etc. in equally myriad fabric types were used. Depending on
the mood of the
wearer, one could choose any top to go with these pants. |
