The Nuclear deal between India and the USA has been in the storm of controversy from its inception. Sections of the political fraternities in both the countries strongly oppose the agreement. The Indian Government faces stiff opposition from the Left parties and main opposition party BJP. The Communist Party of India (Marxist)
believes that the nuclear pact poses a threat to India’s sovereignty and will increase US influence on India’s foreign policies.
Good side of this deal is: It will mark an improvement in the political and business relations between the two countries. Nuclear power will help solve India’s energy problems, a current hitch in its growth path.
It may have a positive impact on India’s relations with Pakistan as the present Government in Pakistan seeks good relations with the US. Under the terms of the agreement, USA will supply dual-use nuclear technology to India and materials that may be used to build nuclear bombs. India will also receive nuclear fuel for its nuclear reactors.
Whether the deal is anti-Muslim?
The pact was signed in 2006, but remains to be implemented to date.
